Immune Support Infusions in Calgary

An immune support infusion combines fluids with vitamin C, zinc and B vitamins for people who are run down, recovering from a viral illness, or heading into a demanding stretch during Calgary’s long cold and flu season. A physician assesses you first, which matters most if you are actually unwell.

Physician assessed. Honest about what it can do. From $250.

What an immune infusion can and cannot do

No infusion prevents colds or flu, and we will not tell you otherwise. Vaccination, sleep, nutrition and hand hygiene do that. What an infusion can do is correct dehydration and low nutrient levels that make recovery slower and leave you feeling flattened. It is most useful:

  • During recovery from a viral illness, when you are not eating or drinking well
  • When blood work shows low zinc, B12 or vitamin D alongside recurrent infections
  • For shift workers, caregivers and frequent travellers who are chronically run down
  • Alongside, never instead of, your flu and COVID vaccines, which we also provide

If you have a fever, a productive cough or symptoms lasting more than 10 days, you need a diagnosis rather than a drip. Our walk-in urgent care will assess you the same day.

What is in the infusion, and what to expect

Vitamin C at labelled doses, zinc, B-complex and B12, and magnesium in normal saline. The physician adjusts the blend from your assessment, and can prescribe antivirals or other treatment where an infection needs it.

Your visit, step by step

1. Physician assessment, including a check that you do not have an infection that needs treating.
2. Infusion the same visit where possible, 45 to 60 minutes.
3. Registered nurse monitoring throughout.
4. Advice on rest, fluids and when to be reassessed.

Why have an immune infusion at a medical clinic

Physician assessed

Recurrent infections sometimes have a medical cause: low iron, diabetes, thyroid, asthma or a medication. The physician looks for it. The assessment is covered by Alberta Health Care.

Vaccines and treatment on site

Flu shots, COVID boosters, antivirals and prescriptions are all available in the same visit if you need them.

No overpromising

We describe what the infusion does and does not do. You will not be sold a package.

Safety

Side effects are uncommon: a flush or vitamin taste during the infusion, mild soreness at the IV site, and occasionally a headache. Vitamin C is not given if you have G6PD deficiency, kidney stones or kidney disease, and zinc doses are kept within safe limits because excess zinc lowers copper.

Cost and coverage

The physician assessment is covered by Alberta Health Care. The infusion itself is a private service from $250, which includes the vitamins and minerals, nursing time and observation. You will be given the exact price before anything is booked.

Some extended health plans reimburse IV therapy with a prescription. Ask reception for a receipt and the prescription copy.

Frequently asked questions

Will an immune infusion stop me getting sick?

No. Nothing we infuse prevents infection. It can help you recover and feel better when you are depleted. Vaccination is the proven prevention and we offer it.

Can I have it while I have a cold?

Usually yes, after the physician checks you. If you have a fever or signs of a bacterial infection, that is treated first.

How often can I have one?

Occasionally, when you are run down or recovering. If you feel you need them regularly, that is a reason for a proper work-up rather than more infusions.

Is it safe with my medications?

Most medications are fine. Tell the physician everything you take, including supplements. High-dose vitamin C interacts with some chemotherapy and with certain blood tests.

Do kids or teenagers get immune infusions?

No. We do not provide elective infusions to anyone under 18. Our pediatric clinic treats childhood illness directly.
